A bit about me:
What you’ll get in therapy with me:
THE SHORT ANSWER:
A real live person to help you find and grow joy/contentment/acceptance/compassion/other good shit while working through the icky stuff.
THE LONG ANSWER:
I want to know you as best I can.
Therapy is something we DO together. I don’t act upon you and I also don’t sit silently while you talk away. We’re a team.
If you are anxious, I will probably ask you where you notice that in your body. If you need help calming, we can work with your body to find solutions.
Mindfulness: I’ll probably slow you down and interrupt you a bunch. I don’t want to pass up juicy bits of info.
When our usual tools are no longer working,
sometimes the best idea is to lean into some help for a while.
Maybe I can be part of that leaning in.
And maybe you’re ready to try out something new:
Does your anxiety feel like a pressure in the chest, a pit in the stomach, a buzzing in the head? Do you feel like you're looking at yourself from a distance? Or like you have no idea what you feel, just know you feel bad?
Let's listen in a new way.
In somatic therapy with me, we get to sort through your actual experience together (rather than talking about it in circles).
You get to understand your struggles from the ground up.
Then it often happens: more comfort in your own skin and more of a match between your insides and your outsides. You don't have to work as hard and you have renewed energy.
But it requires making some moves!
Whenever I talk about my experiences in Genoa’s office, I can’t help but get excited. Not to say that her approach to therapy is easy, recreational, or frivolous—quite the opposite. The emotional work is hard. But I could never stress enough just how rewarding that work has been. Genoa has helped me develop tools to better understand inner emotional patterns, as well as discover parts of myself that seemed to always hide in the background. It is in Genoa’s office that those parts are able to come to the foreground and be experienced in full, not least because of the incredible atmosphere of trust, support and compassion that Genoa takes care to create. Having Genoa there to help explore emotions in a safe space is truly invaluable and makes therapy a liberating process of care and compassion. As I said to Genoa herself, therapy sessions with her are like being hit by a bus, but in the best way possible!
